Effective date: 19 October 2026 · Version: 1.3
This policy is part of the Terms of Service. ScanDefend is a trading name of IronSky Limited.
1. How credits work
- Price: Quick Scan credits are sold in packs: 1 credit for USD 8, 5 credits for USD 18, or 20 credits for USD 59, plus applicable tax. One credit runs one Quick Scan of one website. A price change never affects credits you have already bought.
- Credits expire 12 months after the purchase they came from. Expired credits are removed and are not refunded.
- Credits are prepaid, have no cash value, are not transferable and can't be resold. They are refunded only as this policy sets out or where the law requires it.
- Purchases are processed by Stripe, through its Link service, as merchant of record. We never see your full card details. Credits are added once Stripe confirms the payment.
- Before you create an account, your credits sit in an anonymous wallet linked to your browser and the email address used at checkout. When you save a report to an account, the remaining credits move with it.
- When you use credits, the oldest purchase is used first.
2. When something goes wrong
| What happened | What you get |
|---|---|
| Scan failed on our side (no report could be produced) | Your credit is returned to your wallet automatically. |
| Scan partly completed because your website refused our scanner (your server, firewall or host blocked, challenged or refused the connection, so the checks that read your website didn't run) | The credit is used, and you keep the results of the checks that ran. You also get one free re-check of the website checks that didn't run (see section 2A). |
| Scan partly completed and essentially nothing ran (for example, the domain doesn't resolve, no check produced a result, or at least half of the checks didn't run) | Your credit is returned automatically. |
| Scan partly completed for another reason (some checks couldn't run, fewer than half) | The report lists what didn't run and why, and the credit is used. |
| Waiting for capacity (you paid but we couldn't start yet) | Nothing is spent: your payment stays as credit and the scan starts automatically. Once a scan has waited more than 24 hours, you can have a refund of that order's credits instead of waiting. |
| You cancel before the scan starts | Your credit is returned. |
| A scan is already running | It can't be cancelled. It finishes, usually within a minute. |
| We cancel a scan before it runs (for example, the site owner opted out after you paid, or we paused scanning) | Your credit is returned. |
| We stop accepting new scans for a while (maintenance, an incident, a cost limit) | Your credits stay valid. |
| We stop or refuse a scan because you broke our terms | The credit is not returned, and we may cancel your other unused credits (see the Acceptable Use Policy), except where the law requires otherwise. |
Returned credits keep their original expiry date, and stay refundable on the same terms as the purchase they came from: a returned credit goes back into the purchase it was taken from.
2A. The free website re-check
When your website refuses our scanner and some checks therefore don't run, the report shows how many checks completed (for example, "16 of 22 checks complete"), what refused the connection as far as we can tell, and which checks didn't run. It also gives you a free re-check:
- It covers only the website checks that didn't run, for the same website as the paid scan. It is not a credit, has no cash value, can't be used for another website or another scan, and can't be transferred.
- You can use it once, and it expires 30 days after the paid scan finished. The report shows the date.
- You start it with the Check website again button in the report. It uses no credit. It is subject to the same limits as any scan (for example, our daily limits per website and our capacity), and you must have a verified email address.
- If the re-check can't start or fails on our side, it isn't used up and you can run it again. A re-check that runs but is refused again counts as used, and doesn't give a further re-check.
- The report also shows what we saw (time, address, status and how we identified ourselves) and a message you can send to your host, so you can ask them to allow ScanDefend before you run it.
- If the paid report is deleted, or the account is deleted, the re-check goes with it.
2B. The welcome check
Your first check is free — on a website you've verified you own.
- Every new account gets one welcome check: one Quick Scan of one website that your organisation has verified it owns. It is not a credit, has no cash value, can't be used for another website, can't be transferred and can't be exchanged for money. Accounts created before we introduced it don't have one.
- It is available once for each account, each organisation, each website domain and each email address. A website's domain (for example, example.com and www.example.com) has one welcome check ever, whichever account uses it.
- You use it by ordering a single Quick Scan of a verified website and choosing Start free check. It uses no credit and no payment, and the scan is the same Quick Scan, without the AI explanation. A multi-website order uses credits as usual.
- If the check can't start or fails on our side, it isn't used up and you can run it again. If you cancel it, or the website refuses our scanner or is excluded under our policies, it counts as used. If the website refuses our scanner, you get the free website re-check in section 2A.
- It is subject to the same limits as any scan (for example, our daily limits per website and our capacity), and you must have a verified email address and accept the Terms of Service and the express request to start straight away (section 10 of the Terms) when you start it.
- A limited number of welcome checks are available each day. If none is available when you order, the order is priced as usual and your welcome check stays available for a later single-website order.
- We may refuse or withdraw a welcome check where we reasonably believe it is being obtained by creating several accounts or by misusing the service.
3. Refunds of unused credits
- Within 30 days of purchase, you can ask for a refund of the credits from that purchase that you haven't used. We refund the unused credits at the price you paid for each.
- After 30 days, unused credits are not refundable, except under the capacity rule above, where the law requires a refund, or where we decide otherwise.
- If we permanently withdraw Quick Scan, or end your access for a reason other than your breach of our terms, we refund your unused, unexpired credits.
This covers the 14-day right of withdrawal that consumers in the EU and EEA have for unused credits. When you start a scan, you ask us to perform it straight away and you lose the right to withdraw for that scan once it has been fully performed (see section 10 of the Terms of Service).
4. How to ask for a refund
- Use the refund option in Billing in your account (available to organisation owners and admins), or the refund button shown on a scan that is waiting for capacity; or
- email billing@scandefend.com from the address you used at checkout, with the date and amount of the purchase.
Requests that meet this policy are applied straight away. Others are reviewed by a person. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Stripe; your bank or card provider usually shows them within 5 to 10 business days. When a purchase is refunded, the matching credits are removed from your wallet first. Stripe's processing fees are not refunded to us, but you receive the full amount you paid for the refunded credits, including the tax charged on them.
Stripe, as merchant of record, may also refund a purchase itself under its own rules. If it does, we remove the matching unused credits.
5. Chargebacks and disputes
If you dispute a payment with your bank or card provider, unused credits from that purchase are frozen while the dispute is open, and removed if the payment is reversed. Please contact us first; we can usually solve the problem faster. A false or fraudulent dispute breaks our Acceptable Use Policy.
6. Deleting your account
When you delete your account, any unused credits in it are forfeited. Ask for any refund you are entitled to before you delete it.
7. Your legal rights
Nothing in this policy affects rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.

9. Change log
- 1.3, 19 October 2026. New prices: 1 credit for USD 8, 5 credits for USD 18, or 20 credits for USD 59, plus applicable tax (previously 5 credits for USD 5). Credits already bought keep the price paid.
- 1.2, 17 October 2026. Added the welcome check (section 2B): one free Quick Scan of one verified website for each new account. A limited number are available each day; an order placed when none is left is priced as usual and the welcome check stays available.
- 1.1, 17 October 2026. A scan that is partly completed because your website refused our scanner now keeps its credit and gives you one free re-check of the website checks that didn't run (section 2A), instead of returning the credit. The credit is still returned when essentially nothing ran. Returned credits are stated to go back into the purchase they came from.
- 1.0, 14 October 2026. First version.
